The REAL Method® is a four-step framework for building confidence that lasts, created by keynote speaker and USA Today bestselling author Simone Knego. The four steps are Respect Yourself, Embrace Your Failures, Ask Yourself What You Want, and Live Without Limits.
Talk to yourself the way you’d talk to someone you love, because confidence starts with your inner voice.
Treat every mistake as information, so a setback becomes your next step forward.
Get clear on your own goals, so you can make decisions with purpose.
Take action before you feel ready, because that’s where confidence grows.
Respecting yourself means speaking to yourself with the same kindness and honesty you’d offer a friend. You can’t build confidence, lead others, or trust yourself if your inner voice is constantly cutting you down.
If you catch yourself starting sentences with “I’m sorry, but…” when you’ve done nothing wrong, or you find yourself avoiding your own reflection in the mirror, it’s time for a mindset shift.
One small habit I teach everywhere is Drop the Just. “I just wanted to check in.” “It’s just an idea.” That one little word shrinks everything that comes after it. Take it out and listen to how differently you sound.
Respect yourself and change the narrative. When you start treating yourself with the same compassion you give everyone else, everything begins to shift.
Embracing your failures means treating every mistake as information you can use. Failure creates our defining moments and teaches us valuable lessons.
When we refuse to fail, we refuse to grow. We hold ourselves back, make ourselves small, and never try in the first place. Confidence grows each time you fall, get back up, and keep going.
The tool I use here is Ctrl-Alt-Delete, a reset for the story in your head:
Asking yourself what you want means getting clear on your own goals, apart from everyone else’s expectations. Set aside what your boss wants, what your family expects, and what you think you should want.
Your confidence depends on clarity. If you don’t know where you’re going, you can’t trust yourself to get there, and you’ll let others decide what’s best for you.
Start with one question: “If I knew I couldn’t fail, I would…” Write down the first answer that comes to you. That’s usually the real one. You’ll be more intentional with your time and energy, and you’ll start saying yes to the things that give you purpose.
Living without limits means taking action before you feel ready. When was the last time you did something that scared you, even just a little?
To build confidence, you have to step into the unknown. Take opportunities that feel uncomfortable. Redefine your relationship with fear, and don’t let it control you. Every time you step into something uncomfortable, you prove to yourself that you can handle it.
This step is also the heart of my Live Without Limits keynote for women’s conferences.

The REAL Method® helps teams perform because confident people speak up, share ideas, and recover faster from mistakes. We’re all leading every day, with or without the title.
It starts with the leader. When leaders hide their mistakes, their teams learn to hide theirs too. When a leader owns a mistake out loud, the team learns it’s OK to try. I bring The REAL Method® to organizations as a keynote, or as a half-day or full-day workshop, so teams can close the gap between their potential and their performance.
The REAL Method® is for anyone who knows they’re capable of more than they’re showing. I teach it to leaders who want confident, high-performing teams, to employees who hold back their best ideas, and to high-achieving women who look confident on the outside and still second-guess themselves on the inside.
Start with Respect Yourself. The way you talk to yourself shapes every other step, and Drop the Just is a change you can make in your very next email.
Low confidence costs you opportunities you never hear about, because you didn’t raise your hand. Self-doubt and imposter syndrome get in the way of your best work, and your team’s.
Self-doubt and self-sabotage drain your energy and limit what’s possible.
Confidence is a skill, and skills can be learned. The REAL Method® gives you and your team a simple, repeatable way to build it.
Discover what’s really holding you back and how to break free. In just 2 minutes, uncover your main confidence blocker, why self-doubt shows up in your life, and the first step to building real, unshakeable confidence.
Whether you’re leading a team, starting a new chapter, or wondering when it will be your turn, this book is a reminder that the confidence you need is already within reach.
REAL Confidence is an honest, in-depth look at what it really takes to develop confidence from the inside out. It provides practical tools, personal stories, and mindset shifts that help you go from unsure to unshakeable.
After all, confidence is something you build.
Let’s get started.
