Yes! You Really Are Making a Difference

Have you ever had one of those days when you wonder, “Am I really making a difference?”

You’re working hard, pouring your heart into something, but doubt creeps in.

Maybe it’s your job, your hobby, your family, or just daily acts of kindness.

Sometimes you may feel like you’re throwing pebbles into a vast ocean, wondering if your actions matter at all.

I know this feeling well. I’ve experienced it many times.

Recently, though, I was reminded of something powerful—even when it doesn’t seem obvious, we are making a difference.

A Moment That Opened My Eyes

As a writer, speaker, and podcaster, sometimes I feel unsure if anyone is even listening to what I share or paying attention to the messages I put out into the world. Do my articles, podcasts, and conversations matter?

But recently, I received a message from a friend. She told me she’d had an incredibly tough day and decided to listen to one of my podcast episodes.

Here’s the incredible part: listening to that podcast episode changed her whole day.

My words—spoken without knowing exactly who might listen or how they might help—gave her comfort and strength. She told me how deeply grateful she was because it helped her get out of the rut she was in.

This was more than just a compliment.

It was a powerful reminder that even when we think no one’s paying attention, we’re making a difference to someone, somewhere.

You Might Not See It, but Your Impact Is Real

When you think of “making a difference,” maybe you imagine something big.

Huge actions like raising thousands of dollars for charity, volunteering in distant places, or influencing crowds of people from a stage.

Sure, those things matter, and they’re wonderful.

But making a difference isn’t always about the big things.

Often, the most meaningful impacts are small, quiet, and unseen.

They’re the moments of kindness, encouragement, and understanding you share with people around you every single day.

You see, your kind words to a friend who has a rough day—those words can shift their whole week.

Your patience with a child who’s struggling can give them the courage to keep going.

Your thoughtful advice to a colleague can change how they handle a challenging situation.

You might not see these moments clearly, but they’re there.

Your actions create ripples that stretch beyond your own awareness, touching lives in unexpected ways.

Why We Sometimes Doubt Our Impact

We doubt ourselves because we live in a world that thrives on instant feedback and visible outcomes.

We’re conditioned to expect immediate results—instant likes, comments, and shares.

When we don’t get those instant affirmations, we wonder if anyone is even listening.

This is especially true when you’re putting something deeply personal out into the world—like sharing your thoughts through writing, speaking, or creating.

Without clear, immediate proof, it’s easy to feel invisible, wondering if your voice even matters.

But here’s the truth: impact isn’t always instant.

Sometimes the seeds you plant today won’t bloom right away.

Sometimes, the real influence you have unfolds slowly, quietly, and behind the scenes.

The Ripple Effect of Your Actions

Consider a tiny pebble tossed into a calm pond.

Even the smallest stone creates ripples that spread outward. They reach farther and wider than you might realize.

Your actions and words have that same ripple effect. They extend outward, reaching beyond your immediate circle.

Think back to a moment when someone’s simple act of kindness changed your day.

Maybe it was a stranger’s encouraging smile when you were stressed. Perhaps it was a friend’s thoughtful message at just the right moment.

They might not even remember doing it—but you remember clearly, because their small gesture made a difference to you.

Now, realize this: you’ve done the same for others, even if you don’t always hear about it.

Your words and actions ripple outward, touching lives in ways you might never fully see.

Don’t Wait for Validation

If you’re waiting for someone to confirm your impact, you might wait a long time.

People don’t always share how much we mean to them.

They might feel shy, uncertain, or simply assume you already know how important you are.

So, instead of waiting for validation, trust yourself.

Trust that your efforts are valuable. And trust that your kindness matters.

Keep creating, sharing, listening, and giving—even if you never hear a single word about your impact.

That friend who reached out to me? She didn’t have to.

But her decision to tell me how my podcast affected her was a gift—a rare moment of clarity about the power we all hold to influence each other’s lives.

Keep Doing What You’re Doing

Here’s what I learned from this moment, and here’s what I encourage you to remember too: Keep going, even when you can’t immediately see the results.

Keep showing kindness, even when it seems unnoticed.

And keep putting good things out into the world, because you never know whose life you’re touching.

If you’re writing, keep writing. Someone is reading.

If you’re teaching, keep teaching. Someone is learning.

And if you’re helping, keep on helping. Someone is grateful.

Keep doing the work, even on the days when you question whether it matters. Because it does.

My Challenge to You: Believe in Your Impact

This week, I want to challenge you to believe that you’re making a difference—even without proof.

Keep spreading kindness, wisdom, and encouragement.

Continue doing the things you love, the things you’re passionate about, even when you’re unsure who’s paying attention.

Trust me—someone is.

Whether you ever hear it directly or not, your efforts matter deeply.

Your acts of kindness, generosity, and understanding have incredible power.

Each day, you have countless opportunities to influence someone’s life for the better.

And every single time you act from your heart, you’re truly making a difference.

A Reminder for All of Us

Today, and every day moving forward, remember:

You matter.

Your words matter.

Your actions matter.

Every day, you’re quietly changing the world around you in ways you may never fully understand. But that’s okay. Just knowing that it’s true can inspire you to keep going.

Because no matter what doubts come along, the truth remains: you’re making a difference—every single day, in more ways than you know.
